Brienne-le-Château

Located 2 hours from Paris and in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Forêt d’Orient, Brienne-le-Château is an Imperial city.

Indeed, a close bond was woven between Napoleon Bonaparte and the city. The emperor came there three times. He arrived at the Royal Military School to study, from 1779 to 1784. In 1805, while on his way to Milan to crown the Iron Crown, he made a detour to see the lands of his childhood.
And finally, in 1814, he fought in Brienne on January 29 against Blücher’s army, launching the campaign of France.

These three moments represent the dawn, the zenith and the twilight of the emperor’s life. In homage, the city was called Brienne-Napoléon from 1849 to 1880.

What remains of this imperial past in the city?

To understand Napoleon’s journey in the city, it is essential to come and discover the Napoleon Museum which perfectly illustrates the passage of Napoleon who has come to the city three times.
